Gallery Spotlight #8 - Tributes
about 3 years ago – Thu, Feb 25, 2021 at 12:04:42 AM

Hi everyone!

As promised, back on track, we've posted the next daily Gallery of LRNZ's work on our website, this time focusing on some of his tribute work -- various personal and commissioned pieces of popular characters, properties, and celebrities. When the artist is himself a fan, you know a lot of love will go into the work, and you can definitely see the love injected into each of these pieces!

You can see the whole gallery post here (and even more works can be found in the pages of VIEWPOINT), but here's just a sampling... how many can you identify...? ;)

We'll be back with more tomorrow! And we may have even unlocked that coin by that point...! :D

Gallery Spotlight #7 - Games
about 3 years ago – Wed, Feb 24, 2021 at 01:37:04 PM

Hi Everyone!

Well, so much for our daily streak. Guess that was bound to happen when working 7-days a week without carving out any time to rest. Just as soon as my head hit the pillow last night I realized I hadn't posted yesterday's gallery update. Oh well. It's not like the updates are having any impact on the campaign... We've gone from "two-steps-forward/ one-step-back" to "one-step-forward/two-steps-back"! That's just part of the game on Kickstarter: the middle part is always going to crawl! (But boy it is going to feel soooo sweet to finally unlock this darn coin...!) :D

So let's dive in with some cool LRNZ gallery stuff! Today's focus is on some of his video game development... (You can see the whole gallery post here.)

RADIAL

“RADIAL is a time-based puzzle game, with a performance-heavy gameplay mechanic meant to exploit mobile and tablet devices. The whole graphic system relies on an adaptive, modular system that generates endless visual configurations for each stage. Music is also a big part of Radial, involving the masterful use of procedural tunes assembled by electronic music virtuoso PANORAM. RADIAL is probably one of the most passionate projects I have worked on throughout my career. It was in development seemingly forever. Scheduled to be released in October 2014, it is my only true regret: I designed the game in 2012 and I still can’t find a way to complete its  production due to the lack of a proper dev team.”

Some mockup promo posters:

(These aren't official -- the game was not finished, and Sony did not release these...)

HARVESTAR

“These are some character designs made for an online RTS game called “The Harvestar”. Each character has a dynamic palette and comes in 4 different chromatic flavors.
Each character is driven by a resource available in the game, as is their look. The Harvestar is an innovative Real-Time Strategy game that stands on the shoulders of  MADMASS. As such, The Harvestar benefits from some of the most cutting-edge technologies out there: Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, and HTML5. The Harvestar is a multi-player game where you can challenge up to 3 of your friends in real time.”

You can see a lot more from both projects in the VIEWPOINT DX artbook available through this campaign!

More tomorrow! Spread the word! Let's kick this thing out of neutral and unlock that coin...!

Gallery Spotlight #6 - Event Posters
about 3 years ago – Mon, Feb 22, 2021 at 11:30:02 PM

Hi everyone!

We were enjoying our Saturday and nearly forgot... we promised a daily gallery post here! We can't shirk on promises!

(...and maybe these gallery posts will get us to finally cross the threshhold to unlock the coin...)

Today's gallery focuses on some of the many amazing posters he has designed for promotional campaigns, pop culture conventions, music events, and even the Japan F1 Grand Prix!

(Note: You can read the full gallery post with more pix and larger art on our website here.)

According to LRNZ —

“Strangely enough, music is my strongest source for visual inspiration. Give me Perlence Subrange 6-36 by Autechre on some decent loudspeakers and I can clearly see the future…”

Tomorrow we'll take a look at some of LRNZ's digital games work! Spread the word! (And unlock that coin...!)

Gallery Spotlight #5 - Animation
about 3 years ago – Mon, Feb 22, 2021 at 11:26:40 PM

Hi everyone!

It's FridayFridayFriday and we are ready for the weekend! We were kinda hoping we'd have unlocked the coin by now so we could open up voting for what the next stretch goal is, but maybe tomorrow...? Fingers crossed!

In the meantime, we've got a fun way to close the work week: a look at LRNZ's animation work! We're on Day 5 of our 8-Days of LRNZ gallery features on our website, and today's spotlight takes a look at a few animated projects he has worked on, starting with THE DARK SIDE OF THE SUN up through his recent new trailer for GOLEM (which we've already showcased, but we'll show it again!)

There's actually a lot more on these projects, plus a few others detailed inside the pages of the VIEWPOINT DX art book -- a whole section dedicated to animation, with QR codes and links to videos and more! If you haven't added VIEWPOINT to your pledge, you owe it to yourself to grab a copy. It is PACKED with good stuff...

(Note: You can read the full gallery post with more pix and larger art on our website here.)

THE DARK SIDE OF THE SUN

“The Dark Side of the Sun” is a documentary by Carlo S. Hintermann about children with the condition Xeroderma Pigmentosum, a rare illness that forces them to stay out of sunlight. Camp Sundown is a retreat in New York that welcomes affected children from all over the world to live in a small nocturnal community. The film tells their stories with the help of roughly 40 minutes of animation that I directed.“

Here's just a sample clip:

GOON FILMS Logo Animation

“Gabriele Mainetti is a director and producer from Rome, and owner of GOON Films. “Lo chiamavano Jeeg Robot” was his first feature movie, and he needed a logo animation for his production company. So he called me to take care of it and hence this little piece of animation was born.“

GOLEM

Aside from the brand new trailer recently posted on the campaign site and in an earlier update, LRNZ created a much smaller, but equally cool, teaser for the original book release. We used his footage for our own US Trailer for our first printing release --

Stay tuned tomorrow for another eye-popping gallery, this time focusing on a bunch of his event posters and advertising work! Spread the word! (We all want that coin...!)

Gallery Spotlight #4 - Film
about 3 years ago – Mon, Feb 22, 2021 at 07:52:41 AM

Hi everyone!

Hope you're all doing well -- we are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CLOSE to unlocking the Challenge Coin! Barely $750 away! Will we make it by morning? (The growth rate these last few days makes it anyone's guess...) We changed up the cover image a bit to make it a bit brighter, informative, and eyecatching, so hopefully that will help attract more backers through organic discovery and browsing... as cool as the original cover pic is, it didn't really say a lot about the project, and it was admittedly pretty dark and hard to define (especially when scaled down). So we'll see if this one works better. Marketing psychology! It's a real thing.

When (not if) we unlock the coin, we'll reveal the next stretch goal -- and this time we'll make it interesting by letting YOU vote on what gets unlocked next! We've got a few ideas (which we'll have ready to put forward shortly), so let's kick this party into gear and get some new folks in the door! Spread the word and share these awesome recent gallery updates! Your friends will be blown away by LRNZ's work (and they'll thank YOU for introducing them to it)!

Today's entry in the LRNZ-Fest showcases some of his work in film, specifically on the sci-fi short THE NOSTALGIST and (of course) MONOLITH. The full gallery post, with additional/larger art and links can be found on our website here but here's a peek at what you'll find there:

THE NOSTALGIST

The Nostalgist is a 2014 science fiction short film, written and directed by Giacomo Cimini, based on the short story The Nostalgist by Daniel H. Wilson. It was produced by Giacomo Cimini, Tommaso Colognese, and Pietro Greppi for Wonder Room Productions. It stars Lambert Wilson as the father and Samuel Joslin as the son. The short film was filmed in London and explores the themes of loss, nostalgia, and robotics. It is noted for its performances and visual effects.

MONOLITH

“Monolith became a live-action movie while I was working on the book! I became involved with the film as a visual supervisor and traveled to the USA to oversee all of the production design. I tried to convey all of the experience gained from working on the set of the movie, focused on recreating what I actually saw out there in the Utah desert, without letting any European clichés or visual culture alter the many vivid memories of those beautiful, amazing new places.”

THE BOOK OF VISION

“I was very lucky, honored, and proud to have the chance to design the official movie poster for “The Book of Vision”, by Carlo S. Hintermann, produced by Terrence Malick. I contributed to various creative aspects of the movie: conceptual visual design and VFX supervising mostly, but I also designed the logo and the opening and closing title sequences.“

You can certainly see LRNZ's style reflected in some of the title and typography in the official trailer --

Tomorrow we'll showcase some of LRNZ's work in ANIMATION! Get ready for it!

(Now let's get that coin unlocked!)
